Proper LBC is located at the heart of modern downtown Long Beach, California. Home to one of the world’s largest shipping ports, the city of Long Beach hosts a variety of exclusive food festivals, coffee shops, and highly rated restaurants. The city’s scenery is unmatched, charming both visitors and locals alike. The downtown area is a burgeoning waterfront metropolis that attracts consumers and tourists while mother nature lends a hand with a beautiful water backdrop. Our namesake belongs here because the energy of the city “properly” parallels what Proper LBC represents. We are a hop and skip away from the popular Long Beach Hilton, in addition to a variety of local favorited coffee shops and restaurants. Some of our personally most frequented spots include The Poke Bar, The Village Grind, and Recreational Coffee. All these spots are within walking distance to Proper LBC so drop by and give us a visit but also, make a whole fun-filled day of it.
Proper LBC is known to be the source point for limited shoe releases but we always keeping a selection of popular classics and hard-to-find shoes at our stores. Because of its geographic centrality to Los Angeles proper and Orange County, being located in Long Beach was an important factor for us. This allows us to readily serve both those demographic regions thus broadening the community of Proper LBC on a local and global scale. We believe in building a community beyond a simple retail-customer relationship with our patrons.
Long Beach, California keeps its calendar full with an array of events year-round. The most prominent festivals that take place annually are the Long Beach Jazz Festival, the Long Beach Crawfish Festival, and the African-American Festival, just to name a few.
Another of the most notable events is the Formula Drift, which just successfully completed its 13th year. Formula Drift takes place on the famous Long Beach Street Course, also home to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, which has been a mainstay since 1977. The Grand Prix is the single largest event in the city of Long Beach, with attendance for that weekend in April exceeding 200,000. The Formula Drift event is an exciting annual event for car and autosport enthusiasts all around the world, boasting a festival full of vendors, giveaways, driver meet-and-greets, and open pits for a uniquely personable experience. In addition, Long Beach plays host to other world famous driving events such as Formula 1, IndyCar, American Le Mans Series, and the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race.
When Proper LBC decided to put down roots in Southern California, Long Beach won us over. We like to think of the city as Los Angeles County’s best kept secret, with the downtown and peninsula areas of Long Beach being the main hub for attractions. The city is a junction where community and culture is celebrated, as seen by the abundance of distinct festivals and events that take place throughout the city annually. That is the type of community Proper LBC wants to be synonymous with. We believe sneaker culture is a lifestyle and we want to be a pivot point for anyone involved.
The poke craze is feverish, and Poke Bar down the street from us is one of the best to do it! “What is poke?” It’s a comestible blend of rice, variations of raw fish, and garnishes, all made customizable in the same vein as a Chipotle bowl. We believe poke is more than a mere trendy food, and will be a staple for food lovers everywhere because of its convenience, heartiness, healthiness, and overall deliciousness. For about $10 a bowl, you will leave feeling satisfied and free of guilt!

The Village Grind
On some days, coffee is our best friend, getting us through our mornings, days, and--for the few who dare--evenings! The Village Grind opens at 7am and is a great local shop that makes amazing food and the best cup of joes you’ll find anywhere. A small but popular favorite, you will find your drinks made with the perfect ratio of creams and sweeteners (if that’s your thing) and the food will keep you gratified. Try the horchata latte and cubano...you won’t be disappointed!
OK, while it IS true we love coffee, Recreational Coffee is more than just a caffeine fill-up spot. Known for their vegan-friendliness and great atmosphere, it’s a fun location if you need to get some work done and need to be around positive energy. But really, you have to try their donuts, namely the churro donut. Make it a combo with one of their delicious pour-overs and you’ll wonder why you hadn’t discovered this place before!
